How to make banana fritters

Here is a recipe for banana fritters from Madagascar. We had to double the recipe to make enough for 39 children, which was awesome for us to put our knowledge of doubles into real life!

Ingredients

6 well ripened bananas
1 cup all purpose sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Mash bananas with a fork or potato masher. Add flour.

Mix water, vanilla and sugar to make a syrup. Add syrup and nutmeg to banana/flour pulp. Add more water, if needed, to make batter to a pancake consistency. Mix well.

Fry like pancakes in oiled frying pan until golden brown.

Enjoy!

Pyjama Day!!

Look at us in our pyjama's!

We are having a great day so far! We have had a parade with the junior school. Banana fritters and milo have been cooked, eaten and drank. Our pyjamas have been coloured in, and we are settling in for a relaxing afternoon to watch Madagascar 2. What a day!

Avocado Video

http://www.safeshare.tv/w/bmqBZYTbwY

Hi Ruma Ono and Ruma Ono parents.

I have just discovered www.safeshare.tv where you can paste a youtube link into it, and it will generate a safe site where you can still watch the youtube clip, but it takes away all the advertising and other links. This makes me feel heaps better about sharing videos that the class love as I know they can't go anywhere else with it. Thought you might like to know that!

So here is the link to the avocado video that is a class fave at the moment.
Enjoy, I know they do! I'm sure your child has already made you watch this a few times.

Don't forget our Pyjama Day next week! Come to school in your pyjamas and we will make some banana fritters and drink some milo in our pyjamas! We are quite excited by this.

""It's my birthday today and Oliver's was on Sunday." - Alice

Now we have 3 six year olds in our class. They are all taller!

"We are learning to sound out words in our writing." - Monique
"We have been learning about the wobbly tooth song and the wind." - Jayda

Alice read to Room 6 today. She found a book about a wobbly tooth, which is our poem this week too!

We have also been reading Graeme Base books. He is the author AND the illustrator. That is pretty impressive. Animali goes through the alphabet and The Waterhole counts from numbers 1 - 10.

If you want to see a cool magic trick, you can ask me to turn a banana into a penguin! You will be amazed! This is the great learning we do in Room 6! ;)

Monday, June 11, 2012

You did Miss Eyre's job today by reading a story to us while we had some nibbles. We might need to call you Miss Stanton!

Here is Kaitlyn reading Green Eggs and Ham to Room 6.

Ruma Ono had so much fun at our Cultural Day. We had studied Japan and we taught other students how to draw Manga (Japanese style cartooning) and how to make origami cats and dogs. We can also count to 10 in Japanese and say hello, goodbye, thank you, yes and no. Check out those cool ninja's above! And thanks to Justine and Kelliegh for all their help!

We made shape cities

Look at us creating shape cities. What a nice way to spend a Friday afternoon.
This morning Ruma Ono discussed this quote from Michelangelo, a very famous artist who lived 600 years ago. He painted the Sistene Chapel and he always aimed high!

"The greatest danger for most of us in not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it."

We have talked about what this means in class, as we always aim high in our learning. Talk about it with Mum and Dad and Nana and Granddad at home.

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

We learned today that blog comes from the words "web log" and when you put them together the word blog is formed.
Ruma Ono discussed what the etiquette is when you are on a blog. Etiquette means the rules and how we keep ourselves safe online.

Here is what we came up with:

"By not putting your address on the blog." - Amelia
"You don't write your last name on the blog." - Nesta
"We don't put our birthdays on there." - Cruz
"You're allowed to put your first name." - Joshua
"You do not tell the day when it is your birthday." - Sienna
"You check your spelling." - Connor
"We write about things that are true." - Vishal
"You can put photos on there." - Alice
"You can put videos on here." - James
"You don't write bad words.' - Oliver
"We do never, never lie on blogs." - Kaitlyn
"You can tell your opinions." - Ari
"On your blog you don't put too long sentences." - Blair

Wow, Miss Eyre thinks that we are really smart when we are online!

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

Tomorrow we are going to learn about blogging etiquette (rules). Here is a link that we will look at to discuss those rules so that we keep ourselves safe online.

http://sakids.wikispaces.com/Blogging+Etiquette+(Rules)

It would be good to discuss them at home too. :)
