What we've learned about this week

This week has been action packed as per usual. Here is the downlow on what we got up to in our learning.

"We had an ICT day with Mr McLay and we learned to take photos. We put them on the computer." Lucia

"I like writing j's in handwriting" - Noah

"Our poem is about a birthday and someone is turning 5" - Samantha
"Mr McLay was teaching us lots of games" - Taha
"We learned heaps of games on the computers from Mr McLay. And he showed us the blog" - Luka
"I learned from Mr McLay that we go to 'Cool', then blocks and that's that" - Leilani
"I was doing Brainpop and I was playing on the computers and Mr McLay showed me a train whistle. The train whistle, when you press a button goes "woooo woooo whoooo!" - Hamza
"I learned about Brainpop and Mr McLay showed me a whistle" - Caleb
"I learned the guitar and we had a book that had notes and I could read those key notes" - Ava

Next week on Tuesday we have our Stardome trip which we are all excited about. We will miss Lucia as she is off to Australia for a holiday.

An introduction to learning about space

In Ruma Ono we are beginning a study about "3rd Rock from the Sun". We watched this video today and loved it. We were quite distracted by the dancing, but I think if we watch it again, we might pick up a few things to wonder about space....

Statistics

 

We made a pictograph with our book bags. What can you tell Mum  and Dad about our graph? What colour has the most? What colour has the least? What other interesting thing can you say about our graph?

We had fantastic weather for our beach picnic.

 

Lots of parents and grandparents could come.

 

We were monkeys in the trees!

 

Mrs Hewetson had a lovely time, too.

 

We built some amazing sand castles.

We went swimming for a very long time!

Congratulations to Room 6 of 2012!!

To all my students last year.....

A huge congratulations on coming 3rd place in the Activboard competition!!!! The video we made to show how we used our Activboard in an innovative way must have impressed the judges, yay!! Of course it did, as you all did such a superb job!

Our prize is an Actiview Document Camera, which is kind of like an OHP (ask your parents what this is!) which can scan things onto the activboard and I'm sure it can do all kinds of other exciting things which we can experiment with when it arrives.

Welcome to the Ruma Ono of 2013!!

Well it is a brand new year and a brand new class.... well, kind of. We still have our great friends Luka, Ava, Caleb and Samantha in our class. And we have added Vlad, Hamza, Taha, Kingston, Lucia, Leilani, Jerry, and Noah. Haere mai! Ruma Ono is lucky to have Miss Taylor join us while she completes her Teachers Training College.

 

Here we are! What a handsome bunch! Already we are having lots of fun with our learning.

We are learning about statistics and we made a pictograph of the colour of our lunchboxes. You can see the graph on the back of our classroom.
