Writing on the iPads

Today we wrote stories on the iPads with buddies.

We showed great team work and came up with lots of creative ideas.

We even recoded our voices to add words to the stories.

We used lots of green hat thinking today!

We've been at school 100 days

CLICK ON THIS LINK ABOVE TO WATCH OUR VIDEO.

We sung our 100th Day at School song at Whanau Time on Friday, and we made Miss Eyre soooooo proud (especially as we had only learned it the day before!).

Listen to how clearly we sung!

100 days smarter: Part 2

We have been counting the days with straws and with our flip chart. Our velcro 100's board was used a lot today. We were trying to look for patterns in the numbers and colours.

After we had shown all our displays we had a disco in the hall to all our favourite songs.

Go, Richard!

We love singing "Let it go" from Frozen.

Then we estimated how far 100 steps would take us from the edge of the courts on to the field.

This is how far we got! What long legs we must have.

We also did 100 exercises in groups of ten. We started with 10 press-ups, 10 jumping jacks and carried on until we were well worn out.

Then we enjoyed 100 seconds on the playground. We had so much fun Miss Eyre extended it by another 100 minutes.

What a cool day filled with lots of learning. Can't wait to see you apopo on Day 101!

We are 100 days smarter!

What a fun filled day we have had. 100 days at school, something to be very proud of. Look at all of the hundreds of items we bought in to school today.

Some of us grouped in groups of 10. Others counted in 1's. We now know that 10 groups of 10 equals 100 items.

Ben brought in 100 leaves.

Oscar's shells were cool.

Vivian loves her loom bands.

Felix had the smallest pasta in the world!

Ethan's shells fitted into groups of ten nicely.

Mackenzie had been saving bottle tops since she was 4!

Richard brought in some interesting plastic items.

Joshua H. had some very bright, colourful feathers.

Diya had 100 chickpeas.

Kayden and Nic had their jobs cut out for them counting tiny pieces of rice. You have to look at this picture very carefully to see them all!

Hayley enjoyed counting her colourful pasta.

Joshua bought in 100 buttons of all sizes.

Saqqara had lots of stickers, 100 in fact!

Kyle shared with us his cool cards.

Byron had 100 pieces of macaroni.

Cameron had 100 stickers, and all of them had his name on them!

Faith has so many hair ties for her long hair.

We played with equipment afterwards, making groups of 100.

Book Week Character Dress Up

To finish off a fun Book Week we all came dressed as our favourite character from a book. Miss Eyre and Mrs Tipi always get mixed up as each other, so they came as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Dr. Suess' Cat in the Hat book.

What other characters can you see? Can you spot Bottomly Pots, covered in spots? How many Spidermen did Room 6 have?

Miss Hillier and her daughter Tia came in for a surprise visit. It was nice to meet Tia as we have heard all about her.

And today we farewell our good friend Megan, who is moving over to the North Shore. We will miss you, Megan. Please keep in touch on the blog and let us know how great you are doing at your new school.

(Miss Eyre doesn't know how to rotate that one sorry, hope your necks ok looking at it!)

Donation of children's books

Hi parents,

If you have any old children's story books that you know longer read or want, I would love to take them off your hands! Please have a look through your books shelves these holidays and bring any unwanted books into Room 6. That would be awesome!!

Thanks,
Miss Eyre

Our winter tree

In every season Miss Eyre takes a photo of Ruma Ono in front of our tree. We are watching the changes that happen as the seasons change. Here are all 3 together so you can see how the tree has changed, and how the class has changed too! Do we look older and wiser??

Here is summer when we first started school.

Here is autumn, as the tree is going a bit bald.....

Hey tree, what happened to you?? Where have all your leaves gone? And why have Room 6's teachers' multiplied??

Uncle Anzac and NZ Book Week

It is New Zealand Book Week this week, and we are celebrating by reading lots of Uncle Anzac's books. His real name is Tommy 'Kapai' Wilson, and he has written so many books about a character called Kapai Kiwi. He is pretty funny and goes on lots of adventures around Aotearoa.

Miss Eyre has raided all the Auckland City Libraries and found sooooo many of his books. She will return them all on time though, she promises.

We got to work making Kapai Kiwi book marks in Uncle Anzac's honour. They look pretty cool and we were all excited to use them at home.

We have also written him an email, which you can read here.....

Dear Uncle Anzac,

We are in Ruma Ono at Western Heights Kura in Tamaki Makaurau and we have been reading your books during NZ Book Week. Our teacher, Miss Eyre, loves your books because they are sooooo kiwi and use lots of kiwi language and Te Reo. We are 5 & 6 years old and we really enjoy your stories. Miss Eyre has even read them to some senior classes, and they think they are great too!

Here are some of our thoughts to you:

"I like your characters, especially Kapai Kiwi because he's the little one" - Vivian
"Uncle Anzac, I love your books" - Joshua H.
"I like Kapai Kiwi because I like your books" - Megan
"Your books are cool" - Hayley
"I love you. Can you be my friend because if you are naughty to me I will keep saying I love you" - Faith

"I like your books; please make more as well" - Ethan
"I love your books, Uncle Anzac" - Kyle

If you have time, we would love to hear back from you, but we know you are quite busy, probably writing more fun stories for us to read. Keep up the great mahi!!

Arohanui,
