Grandparent Day

Our Grandparents came in for the morning on September 24th. We started off with some familiar Jump Jam songs in the hall. Lots of grandparents joined in with us which was fun!

When we got back to class we impressed them with our calendar maths, and how we are learning to count in groups of hundreds, tens and ones.

Then we chose what learning we wanted to show them. Some chose math games.

Others chose reading.

Our phonics phones were a hit!

We even had outside learning!

Hayley's Pop-Pop was pretty good at writing his numbers 1 - 10.

Mackenzie's grandad was good at throwing the beanbags onto the words we are learning.

The morning was finished with a concert in the hall. We sung 'Yi Shan, Yi Shan', which is Twinkle, Twinkle in Chinese and some of us played the xylophone alongside the singing.

There were lots of great performances, including the Junior Kapa Haka as seen below.

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all the Grandparents who were able to come in to our classroom to support our learning. It was a very special morning.

A few more dancing pics

Here we are in action.

Folk Dancing Extravaganza!

We had so much fun dressing up for 3 folk dancing performances.

Look at how great we look!

Here is our dance The Jiffy Mixer from America. Heel, toe, heel, toe, step, step.  Show your whanau how it goes. Have a hoe down in your lounge!

And here we are doing the Birdy Dance. We also danced to Frere Jacque, a French song. Thanks so much to all the parents and family who came to support us.

Moon cakes, fortune cookies and a kindy visit - phew!

Oscar brought in some moon cakes for us to try to celebrate the Moon Festival.

We had to use our fractions to share 4 cakes between 20 people. How many pieces did we have to cut each moon cake into?

Thanks for sharing your special Chinese treat, Oscar!

Another day Felix brought in some Fortune Cookies which were fun to eat too. Each one had a special message in it.

Yesterday we were invited back to kindy. Look at how much fun we had!!
Even Miss Eyre didn't want to come back to school.

Making paper and Chinese fans

In Room 6 we have been learning about how the Ancient Chinese invented paper.
We decided that we should make some paper too!

What did we do first? What materials did we need?

This looks like fun! What were we doing?

We made pulp!

How did we make the pulp?

Wow, how did we make blue paper?

We are also making chinese fans with designs on them.
What designs did you put on your fan?

Describe your finished fan to your whanau.
