The Science Continues....

Miss Eyre decided it was about time she did some science with the class too, even though she hasn't been the science teacher this year yet, as all of the students are covering it. Amazing!

But she brought in a hard boiled egg and we have put it in vinegar for the last 3 days. What is your hypothesis on what will happen? Why do you think the egg was hard boiled?

What happened to the egg on the first day?

Then today Nikita brought in her cool magnets and showed us some of her tricks.

She held one and spun the other one around without even touching it.

How did the magnet stay on the paper?

What other trick did you like?

Han made the connection to other magnets in the class - great Blue Hat thinking, Han. You are thinking about thinking!

Then Manasa did 2 experiments. The first one used the equipment: a plastic container, water, pepper and a tiny bit of soap on his finger. Tell your whanau what happened.

Then we had a noisy one, with a balloon filled with air, and a balloon filled with water, and we held them both over a tiny tea light candle that had been lit.

What happened to both of the balloons?

Finally, our Dr Seuss photo booth is almost finished. We just need the faces to be jigsawed out, then we are good to take lots of photos!

Have a great Easter Holiday with your families, and stay safe.

Enviro Week and Connor's Science Experiment

Connor came in today to teach us about colour mixing in science.

Tell your whanau what equipment he needed.

What were the paper towels for?

What happened? Was your hypothesis correct?

How long did we observe the experiment for?
Thanks Connor for being a great teacher today!

It has been Enviro Week this week, so there has been lots going on around the school. Tell your family some of the new things that you have noticed.

We have a new bamboo feature outside our classroom. It's a musical instrument, and there are colourful tree stumps to sit on, and rocks to play Naughts and Crosses. We can thank Rooms 13 and 14 for that.

Our Enviro Art Project has been painting a Dr Seuss photo booth. We will cut out the head shape and you will be able to stick your head in, and you will be transformed into either Thing 1, Thing 2, or The Cat in the Hat.

We have done a fantastic job of sharing out the painting over the week.

We have also been doing art inside the classroom, looking at autumn leaves, from the perspective of under the tree. Miss Eyre is so impressed with the beautiful pieces of art we have made so far.

There are a few more finishing touches and then they will be complete.

And finally, here is a cool design of a box that Han made in the afternoon. We are a creative bunch!

Sharing home learning

Shakira brought in some extremely cute baby pictures today
of herself as a baby. She liked kapa haka and cake!

Lily wrote another Dr Seuss biography to share
with the class.

I love hearing a Room 12's news and home learning.

Some wet day creativity!

We had a very wet lunch time today and some of Room 12's boys made a cool dominoes pattern!

As it is Enviro Week we are also painting our Dr Seuss Photo Booth. It's early days, but it's looking great already.

We are also painting our autumn leaves, with 2 different perspectives. One is looking up a tree, and one has a path down the middle of some trees in a forest. They are looking amazing!

Justin, Rushaal and Dannel also designed some Tiny Houses with chairs inside. They were very creative.

Some mathematical patterns

Han and Shakira made a very cool mathematical pattern!

Trip to the Waitakere Refuse and Transfer Station

We put on our safety gear for our tour of the transfer station.

You could spot us a mile away!

Sarah and her husband have created an awesome space, using materials only from the transfer station. What did you like the most?

Look at this cool deck area.

What did you like on the tour? What was interesting?

What happened to these fridges and appliances?

What are these?

How could you reuse plastic bottles instead of throwing them away?

Look at all of the cool designs in the classroom area.

We found the worm farm, and our food scraps from morning tea went straight to them!

What was this? What did it do?

Look at this beautiful upcycled table.

Adrain gave us a really interesting lesson on how we can produce less waste. Tell your whanau what you learned?

The first rubbish sack we held was heavy, even though a few of us could hold it with our pinky finger!

We tipped all the rubbish out and resorted it into the right bins. What bins were there for our sorting?

How big was the bag after we had sorted the rubbish properly? Yes, only about a third of the size!

It was a very inspiring day, for the students and the adults! Miss Eyre is wondering how she is going to come back to get some free wood to make planter boxes for her garden at home.
