Our end of term plays

Room 12 love doing plays and I am always impressed by their Green Hat thinking when it comes to the use of props and stages.

Check out our talents below. What play were you in? Tell your family about your character and the plot of the play.

I love the use of the outdoor stages, as well.

Here is the salad and popcorn. Can you see the lumpy pancake with hair in it, and the peanut butter sandwich?

What a creative robot costume!

Wow, who's that famous star in the black shirt? She must be from Hollywood or something.

I love the carpet in the house, too. Well done Room 12!
Have a great holiday and keep safe. See you in 2 weeks!

Making ice cream

For our science rotation we made ice cream.

Ingredients
Half a cup of cream
Half a cup of milk
Half a tsp vanilla essence
1 Tbsp sugar

2 cups of ice
1/2 cup of salt

We mixed the ingredients into a small bag, then placed the
small bag into a bigger bag filled with ice and salt. Then we shook it up!!
The salt causes the ice to melt, but it also makes it colder! Really cold!

We all had turns at shaking it for a few minutes, then came the fun part : eating it!!

Some of it was a bit salty as we realised we should rinse off the
opening of the small bag first, otherwise it tastes salty!

We also talked about the changes in matter, from a liquid to a solid and what the cause and effect was of that. Room 12 loves science!

Our special guest author, Jacob Hewitt

8 year old author Jacob Hewitt came in to visit us today with his mum, Jodie. Room 12 were
fantastic reporters who asked interesting questions and Jacob answered them with confidence
and knowledge. He shared his inspiration and ideas, as well as his illustration scrapbook.

Rose from the Western Leader also came in to take pictures for next Tuesday's edition. We are
really excited about being West Auckland world famous!

We loved getting his signature , which had a cat flourish!

Manasa and Shakira won Jacob's competition, and their
cat characters will feature in Jacob's third book. Well done!!

Jacob Hewitt, author of Agents of M.E.O.W

A few weeks ago Miss Eyre found a book written and published by Jacob Hewitt, an 8 year old boy from Titirangi. He has written 2 books in his series, the Agents of M.E.O.W. We have only read the first one so far, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. He has a competition up and running where you can create your own cat agent/villain, and the winner will be a character in his third book!

Here are our entries:
Agents of M.E.O.W competition page

You can also check out our comments on his book here:

And here is the link to the homepage on his website:

We are hoping that Jacob can come in to meet us as a guest author. We'll keep you posted.....

Jacob is also a philanthropist, as some of the proceeds from his book go towards supporting the SPCA. He is aiming to raise $100 and is almost at his target.
